Houston ISD students, parents and staff can track the number of COVID-19 cases on specific campuses and throughout the district with an interactive online tool launched Monday on the HISD website.
HISD said its COVID-19 dashboard was developed using Texas Education Agency guidelines for reporting cases of the new coronavirus and will be updated daily. It includes a map that outlines cases throughout the district, which includes nearly 196,000 students and more than 27,000 staff members.
As of Monday afternoon, the dashboard indicated there were 23 cases throughout the district — 15 among staff and eight among students. None of the active cases was on a campus in the Heights, Garden Oaks or Oak Forest areas, while there was one COVID-19 case among the staff at HISD headquarters at 4400 W. 18th St.
HISD began the 2020-21 school year Sept. 8 with virtual online learning and plans to return to in-person, on-campus instruction Oct. 19.
“As we navigate this pandemic together, we want to ensure that we are transparent as we provide crucial updates,” HISD interim superintendent Grenita Lathan said in a news release. “This new dashboard will give our staff members and families the information they need in an accessible and easy-to-use way to make informed decisions.”
