The district also said local conditions will dictate whether facilities reopen on Friday.
HISD’s food distribution in partnership with the Houston Food Bank – originally scheduled for Friday at NRG Stadium – has been rescheduled for Saturday from noon-5 p.m., according to a news release from the district. Food deliveries at designated apartment complexes will continue Wednesday, but will be cancelled on Thursday and Friday along with HISD’s curbside summer meals events on those days.
HISD encouraged families in need to take advantage of Saturday’s distribution event in the NRG Stadium Yellow Lot, where they can pick up an 80-pound food package and a week’s worth of student meals for each child. Also available will be masks from the City of Houston, hygiene packs from the Anita D Designer Foundation, STEM kits from the Children’s Museum of Houston and school supplies from Reliant, T-Mobile and Staples.
In order to receive student meals, drivers must have children in their vehicle or show birth certificates or proof of enrollment in any school district. All the other items are available to all.
