The City of Houston is extending the suspension of all scheduled trials by jury, according to Houston Municipal Court.
According to a news release from the city, all trials will remain suspended through at least Sept. 30 due to the continued presence of COVID-19 in the region. If a jury trial was scheduled from June 1–Sept. 30, the city said rescheduling will be available in person at all city court locations through 5 p.m. Sept. 30. Residents can visit any city court location to speak with an annex judge to reset a case once they have been cleared by a physician.
Unless otherwise noted, trials and jury duty will resume Oct. 1, according to the city.
Though the courts will remain open for all other proceedings, face coverings must be worn at all times inside courthouse facilities and each visitor will have their temperature checked prior to entering the courthouse.
For the most up-to-date announcements and information regarding the courts, residents can call 3-1-1 or 713-837-0311. They can also visit the city’s municipal courts website at houstontx.gov/courts.
